Tanzania is a country that does nothing by halves, whether it’s a question of the epic scale of its wild places, the standards of its luxury safari lodges, or the quality of the wildlife experiences.
Tanzania offers travelers the chance to combine both bush and beach experiences without the need for additional ink in their passports: the islands of Zanzibar and Pemba offer fascinating history, chilled beach time and excellent diving.
Tanzania’s almost synonymous with the Great Wildebeest Migration, the annual event which draws tourists to the Serengeti in the same unerring way that it calls to the itinerant antelope.
While the Serengeti’s endless sea of grass offers scope for the grandest of safari ambitions to be played out, it’s by no means the only wildlife-viewing hotspot in the country.
The ‘lost world’ of Ngorongoro Crater offers an uplifting descent into an extinct volcano, while Tarangire’s baobab trees compete with local elephant for lens time.
Benignly frowning down on the plains of northern Tanzania, Mount Kilimanjaro issues its silent challenge to more adventurous travelers. Southern Tanzania offers ample opportunities and space to leave the beaten path, and experience safari at its most authentic.
THE KILIMANJARO
Have you ever smelled an atmosphere on top Kilimanjaro? The name itself is a mystery wreathed in clouds, with its Kibo, Kilimanjaro’s familiar snowy peak that stands imperious, overseer of the continent, and the summit of Africa.
The mountain is a metaphor for the compelling beauty of Tanzania. When you see it, you understand why? Not only is this the highest peak on the African continent; it is also the tallest free-standing mountain in the world, rising in breathtaking isolation from the surrounding Chagga tribe – elevation around 900 meters – to an imperious 5,895 meters (19,336 feet).
Kilimanjaro is one of the world’s most accessible high summits, a beacon for visitors from around the world. With Lodo Safaris, you will reach the crater rim with little more than a walking stick, proper clothing and determination. And those who reach Uhuru Point, the actual summit, will have earned their climbing certificates and their memories.
But there is so much more to Kili than her summit. The ascent of the slopes is a virtual climatic world tour, from the tropics to the Arctic. Even before you cross the national park boundary (at about 2700m), the cultivated foot slopes give way to lush montane forest, inhabited by elusive Elephants, Leopards, Buffalos and other small Antelope and Primates.
The most popular routes are Machame and Marangu. Depending on trekkers’ travel itinerary that Lodo Safari will suggest for you, climbing this mountain takes between 5 to 8 days to get to the top. Trekking through Marangu route require a minimum of five days while Machame route require a minimum of six days. Lodo Safaris invites you conquer the world, to stand in the highest point of Africa.
MARANGU ROUTE
This is the easiest and shortest route to Kilimanjaro’s summit. Marangu, which also known as “Coca-Cola” route, is the only route on Kilimanjaro with the comforts of solar powered sleeping huts and comfortable beds at every camp. With Basic men’s and ladies’ latrines. The huts are communal, and each bunk has a sponge mattress and pillow.
RONGAI ROUTE
This route is known to be scenic than the Marangu Route. The success rate on this route is very high. The Rongai, also known as “whiskey” starts on the north side of the mountain just south of the Kenyan border and is one of the least traveled routes. Unlike Marangu where you sleep in huts, on the Rongai, you sleep in tents (tents inclusive)
MACHAME ROUTE
Through this route you will experience the mountain at the South West and South sides of the Kilimanjaro Mountain since you will go up one way and down the other. In Machame, you will sleep in the tents. Porters will carry all your equipment and supplies, and a cook prepares all your meals.
LEMOSHO ROUTE
The Lemosho Route is an unspoiled, remote, little-used, and beautiful way up to the Shira Plateau. Above the plateau, you approach Kilimanjaro’s great Western Breach, and then follow the south circuit to reach the easier Barafu Route. This route can take up to 10 days
